History of the Twin Lakes Sailing Association (TLSA)

The Twin Lakes Sailing Association, or TLSA, was founded in 1974 by Hiram Walker, Ted Bodensteiner, Dale & Bobbie Johnson and Bill Gibb.   Just to make sure it got off to a good start, they formed a dealership to purchase 40 Sunfish Sailboats to be sold at cost to friends and neighbors. They were the number one Sunfish distributor in the world in 1974.  Some of those original boats are still on Twin Lakes, having changed hands over the years.

The first documented sailing race of the Twin Lakes Sailing Association (TLSA) was held on May 26, 1975. The TLSA started out with two classes of sailboats.  The primary class was the Sunfish.   The other class was the “Open Class” which was open to all other sailboat styles and models.  Final race results for the Open Class had to be handicapped to determine the winners.  Over the years, the TLSA has supported other classes of boats including the Force Five, Sweet 16 and its newest class, the Hobie Wave.
